Many enjoy the opportunity February brings to celebrate the history and ongoing legacy of Black excellence. At RUNGRL, we celebrate and are inspired by Black women all year long.

So, this year, we’d like to reiterate that Black History Month should always be the START of something: a renewal of greatness for our community and the ongoing support for what makes us both special and irreplaceable.

Our goal has always been to use running as a vehicle to impact wellness in our community. We’re excited to invite all of you to join us as we Start Some Movement.

All month long we will encourage our audience to Start Some Movement, by inviting fellow Black women and other members of their community to join them in movement/running.

Taking care of ourselves has always been a radical act for Black people and particularly Black women. And it’s no secret that our community faces some of the most significant health disparities, which block us on the path to good health, both mentally and physically. The intersectionality of gender and race and the historical contexts that have accumulated to influence Black women's health in the United States, are undeniable.

By spreading a culture of movement to others in our community, we are building a support system that we hope will have a ripple effect on the health and wellness of our friends, families, communities and beyond.

How You Can Join Us

  1. Get moving. Whether you go out for a few quick miles or a hit it hard with a long trail session, commit to get moving each week throughout the month of February. Every step you take toward improving your health and wellness is a radical act of self care. All you have to do is get started (or start again)! Not sure where to begin? Check out some of our runner resources.

  2. Get your friends and family moving. This is the perfect time to start a movement, with actual movement! Invite at least one person to join you in your commitment to #StartSomeMovement this month. The health of our friends, families and communities is important, and we’re counting on YOU to encourage the type of wellness-centered lifestyles that can positively impact the health disparities that are so common for Black women in particular. Invite your mom, cousin or co-worker on a run (or walk to start), take a workout class together, or get flexible with a yoga class—it all counts, as long as you’re moving.

  3. Share your stories with RUNGRL. We’re in this with you, and we want to hear all about your movement journeys. The good, the bad and the ‘what’s that?!’--we want to hear it all. Tag @rungrlco on Instagram and use #StartSomeMovement all this month to show us your runs and workouts and let us know how you’re “gonna be starting something”!

We’ve always been trendsetters. Let’s set the trend of movement, together.

xo,
